Gladiatore Helmet Welcome
To
Ave and welcome to the Roman Empire's Gladitore Pages. We are those who fight for the amusement of the Roman Citizenry and their guests. Even willing to give our lives in the pursuit of their pleasure and entertainment, we are slaves who are as well-trained and deadly as the Warriors. Yet our combat usually is limited to the arena in the Colosseum and against each other. We give no quarter nor mercy to our opponents, nor do we expect any for it is rather the will of the People and ultimately the Emperor which grants that...IF it is indeed granted to one of us should we fall in battle. Many and varied are the contests and styles of battle which we put on for your amusement even knowing it shall ultimately lead to the death of one of us. From the Beastiarii who contest with wild beasts, fierce and exotic, in differing fashions to the Essedari who fight in chariots like the Gauls and Britons do, to the Secutors armed with the traditional gladius sword and scutum shield that often pursue the Retiarii if their nets fail to ensnare them so that the trident would strike truly and so many more. We fight in pairs one on one or as Catevarii in groups, as Andabatae in helms that cover even our eyes so as to amuse the populace with our efforts... perhaps you shall see one of us with the pair of swords which mark us as being Dimacheri and if not a lariat may be used as a weapon by those of us fighting as Laqueatores or maybe we shall fight for you as Equites on horseback. And all of our battles are to the death or to the mercy of the populace and our glorious Emperor. Unless that is, it is a battle sine missione...without mercy, in which case of every contest only one shall emerge...alive. We have sworn our sacred oaths, that which, even tho slaves, grants us the special honor and dignity to uphold; to fight and if needed to die nobly for your pleasure. For defamed as we are in the eyes of society, yet do these things succor our spirit. And if it should come that one day we are defeated, we shall face our deaths with dignity, without crying out, knowing that we have upheld and honored that which we swore with even our life's blood. Remember us then as we are hooked and dragged over the sands of the arena thru the gates of Porta Libitinensis by Charon, the ferrier of the dead. Remember the Gladiatore of the Ludus Maximus de Roma. Remember the Fighters of the Grand Gladiator School of Rome. I am †hør {Imperial}, servus prima and lanista of the Ludus Maximus de Roma. That is to say, the first male slave of Rome and the head Gladiatore trainer and manager of the Gladiatore School. I, and indeed, all Gladiatore are pledged to support the Emperor of Rome, Nightmare Slayer and if need be with our battle skills shall defend Him and Rome to the death just as we would battle each other simply to entertain you. Beware, if you come to bring Rome or it's Emperor down, we do not fear death and we do not fear you. On the following pages you shall find
the historical information and descriptions for the Gladiatore, the Gladiatore
